Can Gemini AI replace your Google Assistant? Let’s find out!

    • Google’s Gemini AI is a newcomer in the Android app world that may replace Google Assistant.
    • It has some catching up to do in terms of features compared to Google Assistant.
    • Gemini can manage alarms and timers, phone basics, device control, smart home hub, and broadcasting.
    • It lacks some distinctive features like reminders, traffic updates, music control, and shopping lists which may be a dealbreaker for some users.
    • Gemini works seamlessly with Google Assistant, and users can switch between the two.
    • As Google keeps rolling out updates, Gemini will get better and better.

Let’s face it, the Android tech world was buzzing with the launch of Google’s Bard AI and its evolution into Gemini. Now, there’s a new Android app ready to rock our devices! The idea that this app could totally replace Google Assistant for both AI-powered creativity and everyday tasks has everyone scrambling to explore it.

Are you feeling tempted to try out Google’s new Gemini assistant? Well, hold your horses for a minute – as powerful as Gemini is, it still has some catching up to do in terms of features compared to the good ol’ reliable Google Assistant. So, while Gemini might not be able to do everything that you’re used to just yet, it’s definitely one to keep an eye on as it continues to evolve and improve over time!

    So, what can Gemini do?

I have shared a list of tasks that can be managed by Gemini and I believe it shouldn’t be overlooked. Please go through the list and see how Gemini can assist you in handling those tasks efficiently.

    • Alarms and Timers: Set them, edit them, forget them (until they go off!)
    • Phone Basics: Make calls, send texts, and have messages read back to you.
    • Device Control: Toggle your flashlight or Bluetooth and open apps – like a hands-free boss.
    • Smart Home Hub: Command your lights, security system, and other connected gadgets.
    • Broadcasting: Send announcements throughout your connected home network.
    • Pixel 8 Power: Get web pages read aloud or troubleshoot Pixel-specific issues (Pixel 8 or later).

That’s not bad for a newcomer!

    What’s missing?

The reason why I am currently on Google Assistant is because there are some distinctive features that I find highly useful. These features have made me prefer Google Assistant over other digital assistants available in the market:

    • Reminders: Honestly, how am I supposed to function without them?
    • Traffic Updates: No more surprise gridlock on my commute, please.
    • Music Maestro: Voice-controlled playlists are basically my life soundtrack.
    • Shopping Lists: My brain is like a sieve – Gemini is not a replacement for my digital grocery list!

The absence of certain features may not be a concern for some people, while it may be a significant issue for others. This variation in preferences is mainly dependent on how one utilizes their Assistant.

Good news – Gemini is just getting started!

The best part about Gemini is how seamlessly it works with Google Assistant. You can easily switch between the two, so go ahead and give Gemini a try. And if it doesn’t quite tick all your boxes, no sweat – just switch back to Google Assistant. Plus, as Google keeps rolling out updates, Gemini will only get better and better. So why not take the plunge and see what Gemini can do for you?

    How to Switch:

    1. Open the Gemini app
    2. Tap your profile picture, then “Settings“
    3. Go to “Digital assistants from Google.“
    4. Choose Gemini or Google Assistant

Have you had a chance to try out Gemini yet? I’d love to hear all about your experience and what you think of it so far. Let’s chat in the comments! And hey, while you’re here, tell me: what would it take to make you switch over from Google Assistant?
