The short version
What we collect
Basic visit data (such as your IP address and the pages you view), and the details you choose to give us in a comment, a contact message or the newsletter form.
Why we collect it
To run and secure the Site, reply to you, send the newsletter you asked for, understand which articles help readers, and pay for the Site through ads.
Who sees it
Only the service providers that help us run the Site (listed below). We don’t sell your email address or the details you send us.
Your choices
You can block cookies, unsubscribe in one click, and ask us to see, fix or delete your data at any time by emailing us.
Who we are
This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) explains how personal data is collected, used and shared when you visit droidfeats.com (the “Site”). The Site is run by Rabbit Rank LLC, 701 Tillery Street, Unit 12-2508, Austin, Texas 78702, United States (“Droidfeats”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at [email protected].
“Personal data” means any information that identifies you, on its own or combined with other information, such as your name, email address or IP address. Please read this Policy so you know what we do. If you don’t agree with it, please don’t use the Site.
Information we collect
You don’t need an account to read Droidfeats, and we don’t sell anything on the Site, so we never collect payment details. This is what we do collect:
| When | What we collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You browse the Site | Your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, screen size, language, the page that sent you here, the pages you view, how long you stay and the date and time. We also count how many times each article is viewed; that counter doesn’t record who you are. | To deliver and secure the Site, to measure and improve it, and to show ads. |
| You leave a comment | The name and email address you enter, an optional website, the comment itself, your IP address and browser details. Your email address is not shown publicly. | To publish your comment, moderate it and block spam. |
| You use the contact form or email us | Your name, email address, the topic you choose, your message, and anything else you include, such as a job application, a news tip or a copyright notice. | To read your message and reply. |
| You subscribe to Droidfeats Daily | Your email address, when you subscribed, which page of the Site you used, and whether you confirmed through the link we email you. | To send you the daily newsletter you asked for, and to prove your consent. |
| You write for us | For writers and contributors with a login: name, username, email address and the articles you publish. | To manage the team and credit authors. |
We don’t use your personal data to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage and tracking scripts, work in a comparable way. We and our partners use them for the purposes below.
| Type | What it does | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Essential and preferences | Keeps the Site working and secure, and remembers your choices: whether you like the light or dark theme (saved in your browser), and, if you tick the box when commenting, your name, email and website for next time. | Droidfeats, WordPress |
| Analytics | Shows us how many people visit, which pages they read and how they move around, so we can fix problems and improve the Site. Microsoft Clarity also records anonymized interactions such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, and creates heatmaps and session replays. It masks sensitive information such as text typed in forms. | Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity |
| Advertising | Shows ads and measures how they perform. These partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to show ads based on your interests, and to limit how often you see the same ad. | Google AdSense and its advertising partners |
| Embedded content | Some articles embed videos or app cards. When these load, the provider can set cookies or receive your IP address, just as if you had visited their site. | YouTube (Google), Google Play and similar services |
| Affiliate links | If you click one of our Amazon links, Amazon sets a cookie so it knows the visit came from us and can credit us for a qualifying purchase. | Amazon (Amazon Associates) |
| Security and speed | Our traffic passes through Cloudflare, which filters attacks and bots and speeds up delivery. It may set security cookies and process technical request data. | Cloudflare |
How to control cookies
- In your browser. You can delete or block cookies in your browser’s settings (usually under “Privacy”, “Settings” or “Help”). Parts of the Site, such as remembering your comment details, may stop working if you do.
- Google ads. Manage or turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. See also how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Google Analytics. Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Microsoft Clarity. Read the Microsoft Privacy Statement for your choices.
- Interest-based advertising in general. Opt out of many ad networks at optout.aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.com (Europe). You’ll still see ads, but they may be less relevant.
How we use your information
- to run, secure, maintain and improve the Site, and to find and fix problems;
- to publish and moderate comments, and to protect the Site from spam and abuse;
- to answer your messages, tips, corrections and requests;
- to send the Droidfeats Daily newsletter to people who asked for it, plus service messages such as confirmation emails;
- to understand which articles and features readers find useful;
- to show advertising and to earn commissions from our Amazon affiliate links, which fund the Site; and
- to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms and protect our rights, our users and the Site.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or a similar region, we rely on these legal bases: your consent (for the newsletter, and for advertising and analytics cookies where the law requires consent); our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the Site and in funding it with advertising; and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time, which doesn’t affect anything we did before.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your email address, and we don’t sell the details you send us. We share data only with companies that help us run the Site, who may use it only for those services:
- Hosting and security: our servers are hosted with Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany, and traffic passes through Cloudflare.
- Analytics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.
- Advertising: Google AdSense and its advertising partners.
- Email: Mailjet delivers the Droidfeats Daily newsletter, and Mailgun delivers email sent by the Site itself, such as confirmation and notification emails.
- Avatars: if comment avatars are shown, Gravatar (Automattic) receives a scrambled version of your email address to look up your profile picture.
- Embeds and affiliate links: YouTube and Google Play for embedded videos and app cards, and Amazon when you click one of our Amazon links. Amazon Associates is our only affiliate program.
- Others: people you ask us to share with, advisers, and authorities when the law requires it or when we need to protect our rights or safety. If the business were ever sold or restructured, data could pass to the new owner under the same protections.
A note for US readers. Under some US state privacy laws, allowing advertising partners to collect data through cookies on a website may count as “sharing” data for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you prefer to opt out, use the ad controls under “How to control cookies”, or email us.
Transfers to other countries
We are based in the United States and our servers are in Germany, and some of our providers (such as Google, Microsoft, Mailjet and Cloudflare) process data in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection rules from yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the providers’ certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Comments stay on the article, with their details, until the comment is deleted. You can ask us to remove one (see the Terms).
- Newsletter details are kept while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we stop sending emails and keep only what we need to honor your choice.
- Messages and emails to us are kept as long as needed to deal with them, and for a reasonable time afterwards in case of follow-up questions.
- Analytics and advertising data are kept by those providers under their own retention settings.
- We keep data for longer where the law requires it, or where we need it to settle a dispute or enforce our rights.
How we protect it
The Site is served over HTTPS and sits behind a firewall and Cloudflare. Admin access is limited to our team, and we use spam and abuse filters. No system is completely secure, though, and we can’t guarantee the security of information sent over the internet. If you think your interaction with us is no longer secure, please email us straight away.
Children
Droidfeats is not directed to children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data. If you are a parent or guardian and think your child has given us information, please contact us and we’ll delete it as soon as reasonably possible.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the privacy laws of California, Texas and other US states), you may have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected, or have your data deleted;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to or restrict some processing, including direct marketing and targeted advertising;
- withdraw your consent whenever our processing is based on it; and
- not be treated unfairly for using these rights.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected] and say which right you want to use and what data it concerns. To protect you, we may reply only to the email address you wrote to us from, and may ask you to confirm who you are. We’ll respond within 30 days. To stop the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.
If you aren’t happy with our answer, you can complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, your national authority) or, in the US, your state attorney general.
Links to other sites
The Site links to websites, apps and stores that we don’t run. This Policy doesn’t cover them, and we aren’t responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their policies before you share any information with them.
Changes to this Policy
We may change this Policy as our Site or the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version. If the changes are significant, we’ll make that clear on the Site.
