Mojang Studios has removed peer-to-peer (P2P) multiplayer support from the first Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 1 snapshot, days before the anticipated Chaos Cubed update’s full launch. The feature was deemed not ready for release due to stability concerns.
This decision means players will not have access to direct device-to-device multiplayer connections, a feature that would have allowed for easier hosting of worlds without external tools. Mojang stated the experience did not meet their standards for all players.

Despite the removal of peer-to-peer functionality, the Chaos Cubed update will still introduce new content. Players can expect the new Sulfur cube mob and a dedicated Sulfur Caves biome.
The Sulfur Caves biome is an underground area featuring red cinnabar and yellow sulfur blocks, along with hot springs emitting toxic gas and erupting geysers. The Sulfur cube mob, exclusive to this biome, can absorb blocks, changing its physical properties.
Peer-to-peer connectivity allows two or more computers to communicate directly without a central server. This method can simplify multiplayer setup for smaller groups. However, Mojang Studios noted that the feature requires further development to ensure a stable experience.
The developer Mojang Studios clarified that the Friends List support will remain active, and future pre-releases will focus on bug fixes. The Chaos Cubed update is currently expected to release around mid-June 2026.
