Google will remove several popular Fitbit features, including Badges and Sleep Animals, from its upcoming Google Health app. This change comes ahead of the app’s official rollout, expected next week.
This move means Fitbit users migrating to the new Google Health platform will lose access to long-standing motivational and data visualization elements that have been central to their fitness tracking experience.

Google has detailed the features slated for removal. These include Badges, which are digital awards for achieving fitness milestones, and Challenges, which allowed users to compete with friends. Also being discontinued are Sleep Animals, a personalized insight into sleep patterns, and social features such as custom and open groups.
Furthermore, the ability to manually log blood glucose and track menstrual health will not transfer to the new application. Users relying on these specific data points will need to find alternative solutions within the Google Health ecosystem or through third-party applications. The Fitbit app on Google Play currently offers these functionalities.
Additionally, the existing Fitbit community forums are slated for deprecation. This indicates a shift away from some of the gamified and community-focused elements that have been a hallmark of the Fitbit platform.
Google’s acquisition of Fitbit, completed in 2021, aimed to bolster its presence in the wearables and digital health market. The new Google Health app is positioned as a central hub for various health data, integrating information from different sources. This consolidation often involves streamlining features, which can lead to the discontinuation of less-prioritized elements from legacy platforms.
The Google Health app is set to begin its rollout next week. Users should review the new app’s features upon release to understand the full scope of changes to their health tracking experience.
