Google has released Snapseed 4.0 for Android, delivering a major update to its photo editing application after a period of dormancy. The update, which began rolling out in June 2025, is now widely available, bringing new features and a redesigned interface to Android users.
This release marks a significant moment for Android users, who have awaited parity with the iOS version that received its 3.0 update in June 2025 and subsequent updates in early 2026. The Snapseed 4.0 Android update ends a nearly two-year wait for a significant refresh on the platform.

The updated Snapseed 4.0 features a completely refreshed user interface designed for a smoother and more intuitive workflow. A new homepage grid displays edited photos, and the editor is organized into three bottom tabs: Looks, Tools, and Export.
Key Features in Snapseed 4.0
The update introduces several capabilities, including:
- Snapseed Camera: A new in-app camera with a “Pro” mode that offers manual controls for ISO, Shutter Speed, and Focus. It also includes real-time film emulation styles, such as those inspired by Kodak Portra, Kodak Gold, Fuji Superia, Polaroid 600, and Technicolor.
- Smart Masking: This tool allows users to isolate subjects or backgrounds with a single tap, enabling faster and more targeted edits.
- Batch Editing: Users can now apply their preferred looks and adjustments to multiple photos simultaneously.
- Non-destructive Editing: Edits can be undone or reverted to the original photo at any time.
- RAW Support: The application supports opening and editing RAW files for enhanced quality control.
- New Tools: Additions include Color HSL, Dehaze, Halation, and Bloom tools for advanced color and lighting adjustments.
Furthermore, the application remains free to use, offering over 30 professional tools and filters without subscriptions, purchases, ads, or watermarks.
Context and Availability
Snapseed was originally developed by Nik Software and acquired by Google in 2012. While the iOS version received significant updates, Android users had not seen a major refresh since May 2024. The new version 4.0 aims to bring the Android experience to feature parity with its iOS counterpart.
The Snapseed 4.0 update for Android is now available for download from the Google Play Store. iOS users can find the updated version on the Apple App Store. For additional support and tutorials, users can visit the official Snapseed Help Center.
