Subnautica 2, the latest underwater survival adventure from Unknown Worlds Entertainment, sold 2 million copies within 12 hours of its early access launch on May 14, 2026.
The rapid sales indicate strong player interest in the title, which also saw a peak concurrent player count exceeding 651,000 across all platforms. This figure combines players on PC and Xbox Series X|S, showcasing broad engagement for the new release.

Developed by San Francisco-based Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the game launched on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store. It also became available on Xbox Series X|S as part of its early access rollout. On Steam alone, Subnautica 2 reached a peak of 467,582 concurrent players.
Furthermore, Subnautica 2 introduces 4-player co-operative multiplayer, a first for the series. This new feature allows players to explore the alien ocean world with friends, building custom bases and crafting tools together.
The game follows 2018’s Subnautica and 2021’s Subnautica: Below Zero, continuing the franchise’s deep-sea exploration theme. It is built using Unreal Engine 5, aiming to deliver detailed underwater environments.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment estimates that Subnautica 2 will remain in early access for approximately two to three years. During this period, players can provide feedback to help shape the game’s ongoing development. Players interested in the game can find more information on the official Subnautica website or its Steam store page.
