Google has introduced a minor visual update to the Gemini app icon, featuring a more colorful design ahead of its annual I/O 2026 developer conference. This tweak offers a subtle refresh to the AI assistant’s branding.
The change comes as Google prepares for its major developer event, where new features and updates for its AI and Android platforms are typically unveiled. The updated Gemini app icon aligns the branding with a more vibrant aesthetic.

The primary change involves the ‘spark’ shape of the icon, which remains consistent but now displays more vibrant and solid colors, with less emphasis on gradients. Specifically, the blue portion of the icon has slightly receded, allowing more red, yellow, and green to become prominent.
This adjustment is not a complete redesign but rather a refinement of the existing visual identity. Most users may not immediately notice the difference, especially when viewing the icon at smaller sizes on a homescreen or within web favicons.
The updated icon is rolling out with version 1.0.913571982 of the Gemini app on Android. It is already available on iOS and the Gemini app for macOS.
Google I/O 2026 is scheduled for May 19-20, featuring keynotes and sessions that will likely detail further advancements in AI and Android. The conference often serves as a platform for significant announcements regarding Google’s software ecosystem, including its AI initiatives like Gemini.
