NetEase Games launched Season 9 of Marvel Rivals, titled “The Mystery of Thebes,” on July 10, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, introducing a complete overhaul of the game’s team-up system.

This ground-up revamp significantly alters how heroes combine their powers, aiming to provide players with a dramatically increased number of tactical combinations and strategic depth in matches.
The new team-up system assigns every hero two independent Team-Up Ability loadouts. Each loadout features both a Base Effect and an Enhanced Effect. A key change is that the Base Effect of a team-up ability now remains active even if the designated partner hero is not present on the team. However, if the partner hero is on the team, the ability activates its Enhanced Effect, which provides a significantly more potent version of the power or adds new effects.
Players can select one of their hero’s two team-up abilities before a match and are able to swap between them in the spawn room during gameplay. This replaces the previous system, which often required specific hero pairings to be active to gain any benefit. Furthermore, team-up abilities will no longer rotate out seasonally; instead, they are now permanent kit elements subject to balance adjustments in future updates. Over 100 new team-up abilities have been added as part of this extensive rework. For comprehensive details on the new mechanics, players can visit the official Marvel Rivals website.
Season 9 represents a substantial content wave for the hero shooter, also introducing the new hero Jubilee, a major rework for Black Widow, and a new narrative. Additionally, the update includes new gameplay elements such as regenerative shields for some high-mobility heroes. These changes collectively aim to redefine the game’s meta and overall player experience. Further information on balance changes and hero adjustments is often detailed on platforms like the Marvel Rivals YouTube channel.
