Nokia 1 Plus: Here’s everything you need to know!

Rumors are right after all. During HMD’s MWC event yesterday, Juho Sarvikas, CPO for HMD Global, has presented the Nokia 1 Plus on stage. It borrows almost the same aesthetic as the Nokia 1, albeit larger in size. We can’t also deny its resemblance to the old Lumia line-up with polycarbonate shell and matted paint job.

One thing it also borrowed from its predecessor, the Nokia 1, is the use of the Android Go Edition software. The Nokia 1 Plus is the cheapest Nokia smartphone during at the launch, and like any other cheap smartphones, the hardware will not fair well with full-blown Android. This time though, the Nokia 1 Plus is among the first smartphones to ship with Android Pie Go Edition.

For the complete specs, the Nokia 1 Plus has a 5.45” FWGA+ IPS LCD panel. Unlike the Nokia 1, the display on Nokia 1 Plus is on 18:9 aspect ratio, giving it a more modern look than its predecessor. The phone is powered by quad-core Mediatek SoC (MTMT6739WW) clocked at 1.5GHz.

There will be 1GB of RAM, which, by the way, is enough for a Go Edition handset. Unfortunately, there is only 8GB ROM to cater all the applications, but is expandable via MicroSD card slot. Keeping the lights on is the 2500mAh battery. It seems lower than as we might have expect from a 2019 device, but considering the hardware it’ll be powering, the battery juice, in theory, would be enough.

For the imaging, the Nokia 1 Plus is also a step up from the Nokia 1. The rear-facing camera is now an 8-megapixel sensor from the previous 5-megapixel. On the front, the Nokia 1 Plus now employs a 5-megapixel sensor, step-up from the ancient 2-megapixel selfie of the Nokia 1. HMD also boast the “beautify” option on the Nokia 1 Plus for better selfies.

The Nokia 1 Plus will be available from mid-March for a global retail price of only 99 USD. The color option includes Black, Red, and Blue.
