Nothing has officially concluded software support for its original Phone (1) smartphone, delivering its final software update on July 4, 2026.
This action marks the end of regular operating system and security updates for the two-year-old device. Consequently, users of the Nothing Phone (1) will no longer receive new features, performance enhancements, or critical security patches directly from the company. This move is a standard practice in the mobile industry as devices age.

The final update, identified as Nothing OS 2.5.6, focuses on various bug fixes and general performance improvements for the device, along with the July 2026 security patch. Nothing had initially committed to providing three years of Android operating system updates and four years of security updates for the Phone (1) when it launched globally in July 2022. This final software release aligns with the company’s stated support timeline, bringing the device up to Android 15, its last major Android version.
The Nothing Phone (1) was the company’s highly anticipated debut smartphone, introduced to the market with a distinctive transparent design and a unique “Glyph Interface” lighting system on its rear panel. It operated on Nothing OS, a customized version of the Android platform, aiming for a clean and efficient user experience. The device garnered significant attention for its design, mid-range specifications, and competitive pricing in various markets. Its successor, the Nothing Phone (2), was launched in July 2023, offering more premium specifications. This was followed by the more budget-friendly Nothing Phone (2a), which debuted in March 2024. Both newer models continue to receive active software support and are expected to follow similar update policies throughout their lifecycles.
Owners of the original Nothing Phone (1) can continue to use their smartphones without interruption. However, they should be aware of potential security vulnerabilities that may emerge without future official patches. While the device will remain fully functional with its current software version, new Android features or security enhancements will not be provided, urging users to consider future upgrades for continued support.
