- Gemini app, a potential rival to Google Assistant on Android, has been updated with a new feature.
- The feature is currently only available to users in the US with Gemini Advanced.
As a tech enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the evolution of the Gemini app, a potential rival to Google Assistant on Android. Despite its promise, Gemini has been held back by a lack of certain features, such as routines and media service provider support. However, I’m excited to share that Gemini is finally stepping up its game.
I recently came across an article on 9to5Google that announced a significant update to the Gemini app on Android. The app now integrates with Google Assistant and Google Tasks, enabling it to set reminders. This is a feature I’ve been eagerly waiting for. Now, I can simply tell Gemini, “Remind me to turn off lights tonight” or “Remind me to grab the mail tomorrow morning,” and it will do just that. Previously, such commands would have been met with an error message or a false acknowledgment.
When using Gemini to set a reminder, it activates Google Assistant and saves the reminder in Tasks. I can even ask Gemini to show me my reminders, providing a list. This is a significant improvement over the previous functionality.
However, it seems this feature is not yet widely available. As of now, only users in the US with Gemini Advanced have reported seeing it. It appears that Google may be slowly rolling out this functionality. As a Gemini user, I look forward to seeing this feature soon. This update is a big step forward for Gemini, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
