- Google has announced a series of new features for Android, including Google Messages, Wear OS, and Android Auto.
- The highlight is the integration of Gemini into Google Messages, aiming to enhance the messaging experience with Google’s AI.
- To try Gemini, users need to join the Google Messages beta.
I woke up to some exciting news today. Google has unveiled a slew of new features that are set to roll out to Android devices shortly. From Google Messages to Wear OS and Android Auto, there’s something for everyone in the latest Android feature drop.
But the star of the show? That’s undoubtedly Gemini’s integration into Google Messages. Imagine a world where your everyday chats are supercharged by Google’s AI, allowing you to gather more information, plan more activities, and accomplish more tasks, all without leaving the Google Messages app. That’s the vision Google is striving for with Gemini.
If you, like me, are eager to experience Gemini in Google Messages, here’s the lowdown on how to get started.
First things first, you’ll need to join the Google Messages beta. Google has stated that Gemini for Google Messages is being rolled out gradually to beta testers. So, if you want to be among the first to try it out, make sure you sign up for the right version of Messages.
If you haven’t joined the Google Messages beta yet, don’t worry; you can do so easily. Google also suggests signing up for the beta of Carrier Services.
Here’s the catch: Gemini in Messages is initially only available on a select few devices. Google hasn’t disclosed why the number of supported devices is limited, but we hope the list will expand quickly. For now, the officially supported devices are:
- Pixel 6 or later
- Pixel Fold
- Samsung Galaxy S22 or later
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold
Google’s mention of only the “Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold” is a bit puzzling – could they be referring to the Fold 4 and Flip 4 onwards? After all, these phones were launched the same year as the Galaxy S22 series. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
If you’re fortunate enough to be in the early group of beta testers, starting a conversation with Gemini is a breeze. Open Google Messages, tap the start chat button and select Gemini. If it’s enabled, it should appear as an option. Once you’ve initiated that chat, Gemini will exist as an ongoing conversation you can return to at any time. Just remember, you’ll need to have RCS enabled.
So, are you ready to take your messaging experience to the next level with Gemini? I know I am. If you manage to get it, let me know. I’d love to hear about your experiences!
