Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai provided an early look at Google I/O 2026 during the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call this week.
The remarks, alongside announcements about Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and YouTube Premium, highlighted key areas of company focus as Google I/O 2026 approaches.

I/O 2026 Preview
Pichai expressed excitement to share more about Search at the upcoming I/O conference, mentioning forthcoming features such as Personal Intelligence, agentic booking, and global Search Live availability. He also noted that artificial intelligence investments are "lighting up every part of the business."
TPU Sales Expansion
Google Cloud will now sell its custom-designed Tensor Processing Units directly to a select group of customers for installation in their own data centers. These TPUs are specialized accelerators built for artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads. Google has observed increased demand from "AI labs, capital markets firms and high-performance computing applications."
Furthermore, CFO Anat Ashkenazi indicated that revenue from TPU hardware sales will begin this year, with a larger financial impact anticipated in 2027. For more information on these processors, visit the Google Cloud TPUs page.
YouTube Premium Growth
Google’s overall paid subscriptions reached 350 million in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 25 million increase from the previous quarter. YouTube Premium and Google One were cited as the primary contributors to this growth. YouTube Music and Premium recorded their largest quarterly increase in non-trial subscribers globally and in the U.S. since their 2018 launch.
The "Subscriptions, Platforms and Devices" segment, which includes YouTube subscriptions, Google One, and the Play Store, saw revenue jump 19% year-over-year to $12.4 billion. Users can learn more about the subscription service at YouTube Premium.
Strategic Focus
Google I/O serves as the company’s annual developer conference, often featuring major announcements across Android, AI, and cloud services. The expansion of TPU sales demonstrates Google’s push into the enterprise AI hardware market, increasing competition with other cloud providers. The sustained growth in subscription services like YouTube Premium reflects a broader industry trend toward recurring revenue models.
These strategic moves underscore Google’s commitment to advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities, strengthening its cloud infrastructure, and expanding its consumer subscription offerings.
