Google Sets Googlebook Laptop Pre-Orders for September 21

Google will open pre-orders for its first wave of Googlebook laptops on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM Eastern Time (6:00 AM Pacific Time). The company posted the timeline on its official product website, alongside an email notification campaign for prospective buyers.

    Key points

    • Googlebook laptop pre-orders begin on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM Eastern Time.
    • Hardware partners producing the initial laptop wave include Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
    • The laptops feature an exterior glowbar light strip, Gemini Intelligence, and an Android-based desktop operating system.
    • Google has not yet published official retail prices or confirmed specific configuration availability.

The move sets the commercial rollout for Google’s newest personal computing platform. First previewed earlier this year, Googlebooks serve as the successor to Chromebooks, shifting the foundation to an Android-based desktop operating system built directly around Gemini Intelligence models.

    Pre-Order Launch Details and Timing

Customers visiting the official Googlebook landing page can currently sign up for email updates. The pre-order checkout option will go live at the scheduled morning hour next week.

Google has not yet published retail pricing for any specific model, nor has it published a confirmed delivery date beyond a general fall release window. Regional availability outside the United States also remains unannounced.

    Hardware Partners and Initial Configurations

Google is relying on third-party computer makers to build and distribute the first run of Googlebook hardware. Five manufacturers have signed on for the initial rollout:

    • Acer: Confirmed an upcoming device, with design details pending.
    • ASUS: An unannounced chassis recently surfaced through online leaks.
    • Dell: Working on launch hardware for commercial and consumer sectors.
    • HP: Preparing consumer-focused models for the fall period.
    • Lenovo: Developing launch models that recently appeared in regulatory leaks.

Google has not revealed which specific partner models will go on sale on September 21. Hardware configurations, such as processor types, RAM allocations, and storage options, will likely appear once listings go live.

Glowbar Return and Core System Features

Googlebooks bring back the “glowbar,” a multi-color light strip mounted on the laptop lid. The design element originally appeared on the 2013 Chromebook Pixel, where it functioned as an exterior battery and status indicator.

On the software side, the platform integrates machine learning tools directly into the desktop environment. Confirmed features include “Magic Pointer” cursor controls, system-wide generative widgets, and automated writing assistance through Gemini. According to an announcement on the Google Blog, the transition marks a shift in how the company approaches laptop operating software.

Over 15 years ago, we introduced the Chromebook, a laptop built for a cloud-first world. Now, as computing shifts from an operating system to an intelligence system, we see an opportunity to rethink laptops again.

    Market Transition from ChromeOS

The arrival of Googlebook hardware begins Google’s transition away from traditional ChromeOS laptops. The underlying operating system, developed under the internal codename Aluminium OS, brings standard Android application compatibility and unified system updates to larger display formats.

Google hosted a closed media preview in New York on September 15. The publication embargo on detailed hardware impressions lifts on September 21, coinciding directly with the opening of retail pre-orders.
