Nokia 4.2: Here’s everything you need to know!

Last year, during an APK teardown of the Nokia Camera app, an NPU reader has found a list of unreleased Nokia devices which includes the Nokia 4 and Nokia 9. Later that year, we have seen leaks regarding the Nokia 9, confirming its existence. But the Nokia 4 remain silent for a year.

Initially, we thought the Nokia 4 wouldn’t see the light of day due to the digit’s association with bad luck in some countries. However, just days before MWC, leakster Ishan Agarwal, tweeted about the Nokia 4.2 alongside photos of the Nokia 9. And to our surprise yesterday, Juho Sarvikas, CPO for HMD Global, presented the Nokia 4.2 on stage. That’s like skipping two generations of the new 4-lineup.

The Nokia 4.2 has close resemblance to the Nokia 3.2. It also has a dewdrop notch, and wide chin with the Nokia logo. But flipping back the phone, and we start to see the difference. First, the Nokia 4.2 comes with rear-mounted fingerprint reader across its variant. Second of all, has a dual rear-facing camera, a combination of a 13MP+2MP depth sensor. The back is also made of glass, which kinda resembles of that of the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 8.1. For a starting price of only 169 USD, we couldn’t ask for more. The selfie camera, by the way, is an 8MP sensor.

Going back to the display, it’s a 5.71-inch HD+ TFT LCD panel in a taller 19:9 aspect ratio. Taking all the workload is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and up to 32GB of storage. It also has a decent battery capacity of 3000mAh, which unfortunately charges at a MicroUSB port. That means, no fast charging.

Just like the Nokia 3.2, the Nokia 4.2 is also one of the first devices to ship with dedicated a Google Assistant button. A LED notification light built into a power button is also retained on the unit. Being an Android One brand, HMD promised users up to 3 years of security patch update.

The Nokia 4.2 will go on sale in April for a global average retail price of 169 USD for the 2GB/16GB base model, and 199 USD for the 3GB/32GB variant. The phone will be available in Black and Pink Sand color option.
