GTA 6 Platforms List: Every Console Confirmed So Far

GTA 6 arrives November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only, with PC expected in early 2027 and no Switch 2 version announced.

Rockstar Games will release GTA 6 on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC, Switch 2 or last-generation console versions planned at launch.

Key points

  • GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no other platforms confirmed at launch.
  • Rockstar has not announced a PC version, though a GamesBeat report citing four sources points to a Q1 2027 release.
  • The game will not come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2 at launch.
  • Digital preload begins November 12 at local midnight, and the Standard Edition starts at $79.99.
  • PS5 marketing touts the game as playing best there, citing haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, though Rockstar says PS5 and Xbox Series X performance will be similar.

The question of which machines will run Rockstar’s next open-world game has shadowed the title since its first trailer. With the launch date now locked in after two previous delays, players deciding whether to buy a new console or upgrade their PC want a clear answer before preorders and midnight launches arrive.

Confirmed Launch Consoles

At launch, Grand Theft Auto 6 will run on four consoles: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Rockstar and Sony have repeatedly marketed the game as playing best on PS5, a claim tied to support for the console’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and fast SSD loading rather than any specific frame rate or resolution target. Rockstar has said performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X will be similar, while the PS5 Pro is expected to offer the strongest results given its upgraded hardware. The Xbox Series S, with its lower-powered specs, is likely to trail the other three in graphical fidelity or frame rate.

  • PlayStation 5 Pro
  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series S

Pricing starts at $79.99 for the Standard Edition, with a $99.99 Ultimate Edition that includes a free Vintage Vice City pack for preorder customers, according to recharge.com’s release and pricing breakdown. Physical copies of the Standard Edition ship with a download code rather than a disc. Digital preload is set to begin November 12 at local midnight, giving players a week to download the game before launch.

No PC Version at Launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be available on PC when it launches November 19. Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date or system requirements. The pattern follows GTA 5, which took roughly two years to reach PC after its console debut.

A GamesBeat report, citing four anonymous industry sources, says Rockstar plans to bring the PC version out in the first quarter of 2027, which would put the gap closer to four months than two years. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said on an earnings call that all of the company’s games eventually reach every platform, though he stopped short of confirming a date. If the Q1 2027 timeline holds, players could be controlling Jason and Lucia on desktop sometime between January and March of that year.

Nintendo Switch 2 and Older Consoles Left Out

Rockstar has announced no plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto 6. GTA 5 never came to the original Switch, making a Switch 2 port for its sequel unlikely for now, though Rockstar could reveal something later. Switch 2 owners do have one major release nearby: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake arrives exclusively on that console a week before GTA 6 launches.

Older-generation consoles are also excluded. PlayStation has stated directly that Grand Theft Auto VI will not come to PlayStation 4, and Rockstar has announced no Xbox One version either. That leaves PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners without a way to play the game unless they upgrade hardware. How the Release Date Took Shape

Grand Theft Auto 6 was originally targeted for 2025, then pushed to May 26, 2026, before Rockstar settled on the current November date. In a November 2025 statement, the studio said: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game.”

Take-Two’s own SEC filings list the November 19, 2026 date for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the company reaffirmed it again during an August 7, 2026 earnings call. That level of repeated confirmation, paired with the October 15 launch trailer, suggests the date is unlikely to move again. Anticipation around the game has already spilled into pop culture, including an NBA promotion detailed in the earlier story on the GTA 6 LOVE magazine preorder sellout.
