After its grand reveal at the MWC 2024 trade show in Barcelona, it’s now set to launch in India on March 7, 2024. We’ve had the privilege of experiencing the Xiaomi 14 firsthand for a week, and we’re excited to share our insights on this remarkable device.
The Xiaomi 14 Series: A new era of high-end smartphones
The Xiaomi 14 is part of a trio of high-end, camera-centric smartphones launched under the new Xiaomi 14 series. Its siblings, the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra, share the spotlight in this impressive lineup. With a starting price of Euro 999, the Xiaomi 14 offers two memory configurations: 12GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB.
Unboxing the Xiaomi 14: What’s inside?
The retail box of the Xiaomi 14 includes the smartphone itself (our review unit is in a striking jade green), a comfortable silicone grip case, a 120W fast charger with a USB Type A-Type C cable, a SIM ejector tool, and the necessary paperwork.
Design and build: Sleek and durable
The Xiaomi 14 sports a glass back with a subtly curved panel and a completely flat metal frame. The type of glass used remains unspecified by Xiaomi. Weighing in at 193g and measuring 8.2mm, the phone feels solid and well-built. It also boasts an IP68 rating, ensuring dust and water resistance.
Camera: A triple threat with Leica Optics
The Xiaomi 14 features a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel “Light Fusion 900” primary sensor with a custom Leica Summilux lens. This lens offers optical image stabilization and an f/1.6 aperture (23mm equivalent). The setup includes a 50-megapixel f/2.0 3.2x telephoto (75mm) and another 50-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide. The phone supports video recording up to 8K@24fps, including 10-bit Dolby Vision HDR and 10-bit LOG. A 32-megapixel (f/2.0) camera graces the front of the device.
Display: Vibrant and responsive
The Xiaomi 14 comes with a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED display, boasting a 1.5K (1200 x 2670p) resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. According to Xiaomi, the panel can reach up to 3,000 nits and supports Dolby Vision playback. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protect the screen.
Performance: Powered for excellence
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS, based on Android 14.
Battery and connectivity: Fast and versatile
The Xiaomi 14 houses a 4,610mAh battery, supporting 90W fast wired and 50W wireless charging, plus 10W reverse wireless charging. The device features dual speakers and supports NFC, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4.
