Game Freak’s new action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, launched today, August 4, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, the PC version has received “Mixed” reviews on Steam at launch.
This early reception for Beast of Reincarnation on PC contrasts with its console counterparts, where initial player feedback and critical averages appear more favorable. PlayStation 5 players, for instance, have given the game an average rating of 4.56 out of 5 stars based on nearly 1,000 verified votes.

Developed by Game Freak, the studio primarily known for the Pokémon series, Beast of Reincarnation is a one-person, one-dog action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Japan.
The game features a hybrid combat system that combines real-time action with turn-based commands, allowing players to control protagonist Emma and her dog companion, Koo.
The PC version’s “Mixed” status on Steam, based on 1,353 user reviews, indicates that 52% of players have rated the game positively. Common factors for such reviews often include technical issues, performance inconsistencies, or gameplay design choices that do not resonate with a broader audience. User reviews on Steam have highlighted a narrow camera view and some boss designs as problematic.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X|S version of Beast of Reincarnation is available on Xbox Game Pass. The game launched on Xbox with a day-one Game Pass inclusion.
Beast of Reincarnation is available for purchase digitally on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.
