Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter said during an interview with BBC Business Today that the GTA 6 PC release date is only six to seven months away, putting a Windows version somewhere in the first half of 2027.
Key points
- Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told BBC Business Today that GTA 6 will reach PC in six to seven months.
- Pachter's estimate points to a launch in the first half of 2027, following the November 19 console debut.
- A GamesBeat report from October 13 cited four anonymous sources saying Rockstar targets a first-quarter 2027 PC release.
- Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version or date, and a company representative did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment.
- Past Rockstar PC ports took much longer: GTA 5 waited 19 months and Red Dead Redemption 2 waited about 13 months after console launch.
The timeline matters because Rockstar Games has never confirmed a PC release for the game at all. GTA 6 is currently set to launch only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, with no official word from Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive about a PC version, pricing or system requirements.
What the Analyst Told the BBC
Pachter made the comment during a segment focused on GTA 6’s expected commercial impact, including a reported 22 percent jump in PS5 sales tied to the game’s release. He said plainly that the game “will come to PC,” according to the BBC interview, without specifying whether his estimate came from independent research or from industry chatter already circulating.
That chatter includes a GamesBeat report published October 13, which cited four industry sources who requested anonymity to avoid damaging business relationships. Those sources told GamesBeat that Rockstar plans to release the PC version in the first quarter of 2027, a window of roughly two to four months after the console launch rather than Pachter’s broader six-to-seven-month estimate. A Rockstar representative did not respond to GamesBeat’s request for comment, and no company has issued an on-the-record statement confirming a PC port exists.
A Much Shorter Wait Than Past Rockstar Games
If either timeline holds, it would mark a sharp break from Rockstar’s usual pattern. Grand Theft Auto 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and didn’t reach PC until April 2015, a gap of roughly 19 months. Red Dead Redemption 2 fared better, arriving on PC about 13 months after its console debut.
Part of the explanation may be timing rather than a change in strategy. GTA 6 was originally planned for an early 2026 release before Rockstar pushed it back, first from a 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and then again to November 19. Work on a PC port may have already been underway well before that second delay, which could explain why this port is tracking faster than its predecessors.
What’s Still Unconfirmed
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has acknowledged that PC is “more and more important” to the company, though he did not name a release date for GTA 6 on the platform during a recent shareholder meeting. At that same meeting, Zelnick confirmed the game ships at launch as a single-player experience only, with no online mode and no microtransactions on day one.
- Console release: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only.
- PC release: unannounced, with estimates ranging from Q1 2027 to mid-2027.
- Nintendo Switch 2: no confirmation either way.
- Launch content: single-player only, no online mode or microtransactions at launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 remains the bigger question mark. Rockstar has not announced a version for the console, even as a wave of other AAA titles have found their way onto the hardware recently. The company has historically prioritized PlayStation, Xbox and PC over Nintendo platforms, and nothing in Pachter’s comments or the GamesBeat report suggests that is changing.
Anticipation for the game has already spilled beyond gaming circles. The Miami Heat plans to rebrand as Vice City for its November 18 game against the Milwaukee Bucks, complete with custom uniforms tied to GTA 6‘s setting, a sign of how far the game’s marketing reach has extended ahead of launch. Rockstar also gave fans an early look at the game through a Netflix broadcast, which offered the first official glimpse of GTA 6 gameplay footage months before release.
