What’s the buzz on Android 15?
Let’s be honest, Android 14 was a bit of a snoozer. There were lots of under-the-hood tweaks in privacy and security, but not much that got users excited. A few custom wallpapers and Health Connect didn’t exactly set the world on fire.
It’s still early days with Android 15. This first Developer Preview is all about giving devs better toys to play with. We’ve got enhanced privacy with Google’s Privacy Sandbox, more granular camera controls for app finetuning, and new tools to help apps optimize hardware usage for snappier performance. Sounds promising!
Android 15 also adds more functionality to Health Connect, plus partial screen sharing. Want to record a single app without showing off your whole screen? Finally! For a breakdown of all the Android 15 features and rumors, hit up our features hub.
So, When will my phone get the update?
Google Right now, you’re limited to a manual install of the Android 15 Developer Preview, and that’ll only fly on a Google Pixel 6, 7, or 8 series phone, or the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
Not a Pixel Person? No Pixel on hand? Android Studio’s your workaround. Use a 64-bit system image with the Android Emulator to get hands-on with Android 15. You can even use it to simulate different screen sizes and device types.
Obviously, Android 15 will hit loads of phones beyond Google’s babies.
Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, ASUS, Nothing, Sony, OPPO – you name it. Expect beta programs and more. Our tracker will keep you posted as Android 15 support rolls out for specific devices.
