Quick answer
Update Fortnite to v42.40, load into Battle Royale and farm Pumpkin Chests, Cheat Codes and chests until the Mythic One Wish Willow Sprite drops. Its pushback and extraction abilities are passive, so you only need to take damage and eliminate players who have Sprites equipped.
The One Wish Willow is a Mythic Sprite tied to the Obsession crossover, and nothing guarantees it will drop. You have to loot your way to it, and the Fortnitemares window is short.
This guide covers the update you need, the sources worth farming, and how to set off both abilities once it is yours. For background on the release, see our report on the Wish Willow Sprite.
Before you start
- Difficulty Moderate
- Time needed 30 minutes
- Works on Fortnite v42.40 or later, Battle Royale, all platforms
What you'll need
- Fortnite v42.40 or later
- Access to Battle Royale during the Fortnitemares 2026 event
Important
- Removing the Sprite upsets it and marks you on the map, which draws attention from other players.
- Fortnitemares content is time limited, so do not count on farming it after the event ends.
Find and use the Sprite in Battle Royale
The steps are the same on every platform.
Step 1: Update Fortnite to v42.40
Install the latest update through your platform’s store or launcher. The Sprite arrived on October 15 with v42.40, so earlier versions will not have it.
Step 2: Load into Battle Royale
Start a Battle Royale match. This is a gameplay Sprite earned by looting, not a skin you can buy. The Obsession outfits in the Item Shop are separate.
Step 3: Smash Pumpkin Chests
Every Pumpkin Chest is guaranteed to drop a Sprite. That does not guarantee the Willow, so expect to open several.
The new Freaky Fields and Nightmare Neighborhood locations are named as good places to look, though that comes from a single source.

Tip: Pumpkin Chests and Epic Cheat Codes are the best odds for a Mythic Sprite.
Step 4: Enter Cheat Codes
Use Cheat Codes around the map, aiming for Epic ones. They feed the same Sprite pool as the chests.

Step 5: Open other chests and sources
- Regular and blue chests
- Gold fishing spots (a Match Override can turn every spot gold)
- Boss drops and Bounty Hunter eliminations
- Trading
Drop rates are not published, so mix several sources in each match.
Step 6: Check your Locker for the Sprite
Look in the Locker for the Sprite. Each variant has its own name there, such as Gold One Wish Willow. Exact equip and pickup button labels were not confirmed, so follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 7: Take damage to trigger pushback
Pushback is passive. When you are damaged, the Sprite pushes everything nearby away. No button is needed, but you have to take a hit first.
Step 8: Eliminate players to extract their Sprites
Extraction is also passive. When you eliminate a player, you extract the Sprites they had equipped. If they had none equipped, nothing is extracted.
Step 9: Extract the Sprite and level it up
To keep a Sprite, extract it from the match. Leveling it up strengthens its passive effect.
Pro tips
- Farm several sources per match, since each one adds to your odds.
- Check the six variants (Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter and Trick or Treat besides the base): Gold gives 3x bonus XP from eliminations, and Cheat Master makes every cheat code input correct.
- The Bounty Hunter variant gives a chance to find Sprites when you eliminate opponents.
- Track which variants you own on the Sprite Checklist.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| You cannot find the Sprite. | Farm several sources in each match. Pumpkin Chests, Cheat Codes, chests and gold fishing spots all feed the pool. |
| Structures break around a Willow user. | One source attributes this to the Sideways Scythe, a Halloween melee weapon with heavy structural damage, not to the Sprite. |
| Extraction does not happen after an elimination. | The victim must have Sprites equipped. Other causes are unconfirmed. |
| The Sprite seems to be missing. | Check your Locker. Each variant has its own name, so look for the variant you picked up. |
