Oppo Reportedly Cancels Find X10 Ultra Amid Memory Costs

Leaker Digital Chat Station says Oppo has scrapped its Find X10 Ultra flagship, with surging memory chip prices cited as the likely cause.

Oppo has reportedly canceled development of the Find X10 Ultra, according to leaker Digital Chat Station, who posted on Weibo that the company’s “Ultra project is on hold.” No official reason was given, but industry watchers point to surging memory chip prices as the likely culprit.

Key points

  • Leaker Digital Chat Station reported on Weibo that Oppo has canceled the Find X10 Ultra.
  • Rising DRAM and NAND prices, dubbed RAMageddon, are the suspected reason behind the cancellation.
  • The Find X10 Ultra was rumored to include a 200MP 1/1.12-inch main sensor and a 50MP 10x periscope telephoto lens.
  • Oppo's current flagship, the Find X10 Pro Max, uses a MediaTek chip and 12GB of RAM instead of Snapdragon and 16GB.
  • Oppo has not issued an official statement confirming or explaining the cancellation.

The cancellation matters because the Find X10 Ultra was shaping up to be one of the most ambitious camera phones of the coming year, and its loss suggests that even well-funded manufacturers are struggling to justify flagship-tier specs at a sustainable price. Rising DRAM and NAND flash prices, a trend some in the industry have nicknamed RAMageddon, have already forced several Android brands to rethink their most expensive models.

What the Find X10 Ultra Was Supposed to Offer

Rumored specifications painted the Find X10 Ultra as a camera-first flagship. Expected hardware included:

  • A 200MP 1/1.12-inch main sensor with LOFIC (lateral overflow integration capacitor) technology for better dynamic range
  • A 200MP periscope telephoto lens with a 1/1.3-inch sensor
  • A 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 10x optical zoom
  • A 100MP front-facing square sensor for selfies

Oppo was also reportedly testing both a MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro variant and a Qualcomm Snapdragon build before the project stalled, with Snapdragon considered the more likely final choice.

Why Memory Prices Are the Prime Suspect

The Find X10 Pro Max, Oppo’s current top-tier phone, already hints at the pressure. It runs a MediaTek flagship chip instead of Snapdragon and ships with 12GB of RAM in most configurations, down from the 16GB found in its predecessor, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra. That phone, which runs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, is already expensive in markets like Europe even without an Ultra-tier camera stack layered on top.

The Find X9 Ultra’s specification sheet shows just how much hardware Oppo packed into that model: a 6.82-inch 2K display running at 144Hz, a 200MP camera system, a 7,050mAh battery, and 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging, according to the company’s own listing of the Find X9 Ultra specifications. It came in 12GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB configurations using LPDDR5X memory, with the top-spec 16GB/1TB variant priced at $2,275 in some markets. Building an Ultra successor with similarly aggressive RAM and camera hardware, at a moment when memory prices are climbing industry-wide, would likely have pushed the price even higher.

A Pattern That Started Earlier This Year

This isn’t the first sign that Oppo was hesitant about a 2026 Ultra launch. Back in April, Oppo’s Find series product head, Zhuo Shijie, wrote on Weibo: “I can tell you with certainty that the Find X10 Ultra will not be launched this year.” That statement came around the same time Oppo pushed the Find X9 Ultra into global markets for the first time in the series’ history, a move covered when Oppo confirmed the April 21 international rollout.
