Nvidia today announced the official release date for its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) 5 technology, with NBA 2K27 confirmed as the first title to support the new feature. DLSS 5 will become available on September 3, 2026.
This latest iteration of Nvidia’s AI-powered upscaling technology aims to enhance game performance and visual fidelity for compatible graphics cards. The rollout follows prior community discussion surrounding the technology.

DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, utilizes artificial intelligence to render games at a lower resolution and then reconstruct them to a higher resolution, which can improve frame rates and image quality.
The company stated that DLSS 5 introduces 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, which aims to bring real-time graphics closer to photorealism by enhancing lighting and material details in game scenes.
However, DLSS 5 will be exclusive to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs and laptops. Nvidia confirmed that older RTX cards will not support this specific version of the technology.
The new technology will also be available for GeForce NOW Ultimate members streaming from GeForce RTX 5080 rigs in the cloud.
NBA 2K27, developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, will expose DLSS 5 as a separate “DLSS Neural Rendering” option. Players will require Nvidia’s new Game Ready Driver, also scheduled for release on September 3.
Nvidia has continually developed its DLSS suite, which also includes technologies like Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction.
