Amazon has launched three Alexa Tablets to replace its Fire tablet line, starting at $229.99 in the U.S. The tablets run Android with the Google Play Store and ship on October 14, 2026, in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
Key points
- Amazon's Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99, the Tablet 11 at $329.99 and the Tablet 12 Pro at $499.99.
- The new tablets run Android with the full Google Play Store and have Alexa+ built in.
- Amazon has ended production of new Fire tablets but says it will keep supporting existing units.
- The tablets ship October 14, 2026, in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
- A European launch on October 19 has been reported, but the date has not been confirmed.
The launch marks the end of new Fire tablets. Amazon says it will keep supporting existing Fire tablets, but production of new units has stopped.
Three tablets replace the Fire line
Amazon announced the lineup on October 8. Fire tablets ran Fire OS, Amazon’s version of Android, and relied on the Amazon Appstore. An Amazon spokesperson said the Alexa Tablets are “an all-new product line with new hardware and a new OS, rather than a rebrand of Fire Tablets.”
Prices and specs by model
| Model | Starting price | RAM and storage | Colors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 | $229.99 | 4GB RAM, 64GB | Graphite, Rosette, Teal |
| Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 | $329.99 | 8GB RAM, 64GB | Graphite, Amethyst, Matcha |
| Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro | $499.99 | 8GB RAM, 128GB (RAM options up to 16GB) | Graphite |
The 12 Pro uses a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor. A version with a Nanomatte screen starts at $549.99. Amazon also sells an Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard for $149.99 and an Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Pen for $89.99.
The Tablet 8 is listed at $229.99, although one report summarized the launch as Alexa Tablets starting at $230.
Android, Google Play and Alexa+
The tablets run Android with the full Google Play Store. Google is reportedly adding a badge to the Play Store for apps optimized for tablets. Alexa+ is built into the core of every model.
Alexa+ is free with Amazon Prime. Without Prime, it costs $19.99 a month, or $239.88 a year.
Amazon has also begun early access in the UK, through its Amazon Alexa assistant.
Why the price jump stands out
The 12 Pro with the Nanomatte screen costs more than three times the $155 price of the Fire HD 10. In August, Amazon raised prices on Echo devices, Kindles, Fire TVs and other hardware, citing the memory crunch. Amazon denies that rising memory costs played a role in the higher price of its Alexa tablets.
Availability and open questions
Amazon lists October 14, 2026, as the ship date for the U.S., Mexico and Canada. A European launch on October 19 has been reported, but that date has not been confirmed. Reports also disagree on update support, and Amazon has not clearly said how many years of Android and security updates the new tablets will receive.
Devices chief Panos Panay has said Amazon has no plans for a full PC or laptop for now. Separately, a group of Senate Democrats has opened an inquiry into Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Microsoft over large tax deductions tied to AI.
