How To Get The Black Fairy Rod In Fisch

Draven's questline in Fisch's Venue Encore update rewards the Black Fairy Rod after players solve five rounds of riddles and catches.

Fisch’s Venue Encore update, version 2.08, introduces the Black Fairy Rod, a reward tied to a five-part questline from a character named Draven inside the Underground Music Venue. Players must solve a string of riddles, catch specific fish mutations and pay a steep in-game fee before the rod unlocks.

Key points

  • The Black Fairy Rod comes from Draven's questline inside Fisch's Underground Music Venue during the Venue Encore update.
  • Players start the quest by telling Draven, "I'll help you find it."
  • The first riddle set, Where Roots Dream, requires catching six specific fish mutations.
  • The final quest, The Great Blade, requires catching several creatures and paying 53,000,000 C$.
  • Venue Encore also added the Oppressor, D.R.E.D-7 and Record Breaker rods through separate questlines.

The Black Fairy Rod ranks among the hardest items to obtain in the update, according to a guide detailing the quest. Each riddle points to a fish, mutation or object scattered across different islands and biomes in Fisch, and getting all of them right takes time and the right gear.

Starting the Draven Quest

To begin, players travel to the Underground Music Venue and speak with Draven, choosing the dialogue option “I’ll help you find it.” That choice launches the questline, which unfolds across five riddle sets: Where Roots Dream, Voices From Afar, Lights For The Lost, A Letter Left Behind and The Great Blade.

Where Roots Dream Riddle Answers

The first set contains six riddles. Each one points to a fish or item players must catch or retrieve before moving forward.

  • Where roots dream, steal that never was: Translucent Rotwood Perch
  • Bring forth an ancient covered in moss: Mossy Ancient Wood
  • Find the crystal creature, rotting from within: Rotting Gem Blobfish
  • Two teeth swallowed by the depths that refuse the dark: Shiny Depths Key
  • Retrieve the ocean’s ruined flower of decay: Oceans Ruin Rotbloom
  • Where the drowned giant broke its spine, claim a splinter of its forgotten bones: Wooden Plank at Castaway Cliffs

The Rotwood Perch bites in Everturn Forest on Coral bait, best during the Autumn season. Getting the Translucent mutation to stick requires a rod with the Ghastly enchantment, which guarantees the mutation, or the Spiritbinder rod, which lands it 90% of the time. The Ancient Wood turns up around Sunstone Island with no bait or weather requirement, but its Mossy variant only comes from the Elder Mossripper rod, which carries a 15% base chance per catch and a 100% chance when its passive triggers.

The Gem Blobfish surfaces at Treasure Island using Crab Cages or Golden Shrimp Bait, and its Rotting mutation requires the Splitbranch Twig rod, which applies the mutation 35% of the time. The Depths Key can be fished from Vertigo’s Dip during the day or pulled from a Strange Whirlpool with Magnet bait; stacking the Shiny odds works best with the Destiny Rod, Blessed or Glittered enchantments, or Rainbow weather. The Rotbloom only appears in the Toxic Grove’s Rotbloom Hunt pool using Luminous Larva or Thorn Cluster bait during Autumn, and its Ocean’s Ruin mutation comes from the Thalassar’s Ruin rod, which lands the mutation about 30% of the time through its minigame. The final clue leads to a sunken ship east of Castaway Cliffs marked by a fishbone flag, found at coordinates 883.1, 31.8, -1928.2.

Later Riddles and Final Payment

Voices From Afar sends players after an abyssal lineup โ€” a Decayed Abyssal Slickhead, a Bioluminescent Abyssal Devourer, a Crimson Abyssal Bearded Seadevil, a Sparkling Abyssacuda and a Shiny Shady Ancient Megalodon โ€” before pointing them to a radio on the Black Market Table in the Shady Bazaar. Lights For The Lost follows with a Shiny Glowy Voidglow Ghostfish, a Sparkling Heavenly Obsidian Swordfish, a Sunlit Midnight Axolotl, a Jackpot Bigfin Squid and a Crystalline Monstrous Cusk, ending with a light found next to The Depths Angler.

A Letter Left Behind asks for a Moon-Kissed Harmonic Dove, a Plagued Fairy Penguin and a Blighted Wyvern before players search for a letter inside the books at The Bunker on Birch Cay. The Great Blade, the final stretch, requires a Sanguine Skolopendra, a Veiled Charybdis caught with the Flimsy Rod, and an Oscar Rusty Bolt, followed by finding the Great Blade behind the Olympian Godbreaker rod inside the Olympian Fissure Portal. Players then pay 53,000,000 C$ and walk through the fog to claim the Black Fairy Rod.

Other Rods in the Venue Encore Update

The Black Fairy Rod is one of four questline rods tied to the Underground Music Venue’s third appearance in Fisch. Tormentor’s questline, outlined in a separate guide on where to find Tormentor, unlocks the Oppressor rod. Dr. Anton’s quest unlocks the D.R.E.D-7 rod, though some accounts credit that reward to a character named Glorp instead, a discrepancy that has not been resolved as of this writing. A fourth character, Tryce, hands out the Record Breaker rod.

The update also brought back a Silver Scalper NPC who sells past Black Market rods for in-game currency, and shipped with three active redemption codes as of October 31: TheVenueEncore, ChapelTroubles and FischFright2026. Players working through other parts of the update may also need currency from Fisch‘s Power Source item, sold separately at Roslit Bay.

The Black Fairy Rod’s exact stats and passive ability have not been confirmed by its developer, WoozyNate, as of November 1. Coverage of the full questline, including a breakdown of the venue’s layout and merchant lineup, appears in a Venue Encore update guide. Further details on the rod’s numbers are expected once players confirm them through testing.
