This is the official update OnePlus 6 owners have been waiting for; you can now download the OnePlus 6 Pie update and install it using our tutorial below. Google launched Android Pie Developer Preview 1 back in March 2018. But this time, the latest update is not only limited to their Pixel device. Thanks to Project Treble, it’s now it is possible for other non-Google devices to enjoy Android Pie.
We can see OnePlus is continuously running Oreo-based Open Beta program for OnePlus 3/3T and 5/5T. So this was expected, that they will run the Open Beta program for Pie too. Well, it is here, and if you are OnePlus 6 owner, you can download the first Open Beta based on Android 9.0 Pie.
Since this is not a public release, you need to download the complete firmware and install it manually. Open Beta update won’t come via OTA (Over-the-air) until and unless you are already in Open Beta. Android 9.0 Pie for OnePlus 6
Open Beta 1 brings all the features of Android Pie, on the top of bringing all of Google’s own Android 9.0 improvement. Some of them are:
- revamped notification system
- improvements to performance
- UI tweaks
- gesture support
- includes new customization features
- improvements of its own
Gaming mode is also updated to version 3.0 and the Do not disturb mode is improved. You can try out all the new features by installing the ROM right away.

Download OxygenOS Open Beta 1 Firmware for OnePlus 6
This new Open Beta iteration comes with a major system update. Older Android 8.1 Oreo users can also install this package for an upgrade. As this is an initial release, there may be some bugs, and it may not be suitable as a daily driver. If you want a stable one, please wait for the public release. How to install Android Pie on OnePlus 6
Most of the OnePlus users are not new to manually updating their device. But if you are entirely new to this, don’t worry. The installation method is different for those are using Android 8.1 Oreo right now, and those are running Android Pie Developer Preview.
Method #1: OnePlus 6 running Android 8.1 Oreo
- Download the OnePlus 6 Open Beta 1 ROM from the above-given link and transfer it to your device. Make sure to copy it to the root directory, not in any folder.
- Open the Setting of your device.
- Navigate to System updates, and click on the icon as shown in the screenshot below.
- Then tap on local upgrade.
- Tap on the ROM file that you had transferred in step 1.
- Now tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
- Once done, tap on Reboot System now!
Wait a while, and your phone may take up to 10 minutes to boot for the first time.
That’s it! Your OnePlus 6 has been updated to Android 9.0 Pie Open Beta 1 official firmware.
Method #2: OnePlus 6 running Android Pie Developer Preview (DP)
- Perform the same steps as in method #1 – from step 1 to step 6.
- Then long press on the power button and switch off the device.
- Press and hold Volume Down and Power Button together to enter into the recovery mode!
- Perform a factory reset by tapping on the “Wipe data/factory reset” option. Use power button to select.
- Once finished, tap on Reboot System now!
Wait a while, and your phone may take up to 10 minutes to boot for the first time.
That’s all. You are done!
