ASUS Googlebook Leak Reveals Internal Fan and Hardware Ports

Leaked hardware images of the upcoming ASUS Googlebook have revealed internal cooling components, port layouts, and keyboard design details days ahead of the device line’s scheduled debut.

    Key points

    • New leaked images reveal the internal cooling fan and heat pipe of the ASUS Googlebook.
    • The chassis includes a dedicated G key on the keyboard alongside USB-A and USB-C ports.
    • A centered multicolor Glowbar light strip sits on the exterior lid of the ASUS model.
    • Google has scheduled the opening of Googlebook pre-orders for September 21, 2026.

The leak provides the clearest look yet at third-party manufacturing for Google’s new computing category. The platform combines Android and ChromeOS into a single operating system designed to position high-tier partner hardware against premium Windows notebooks and Apple MacBooks.

Thermal Layout and Internal Cooling Design

Images originating from The Mac Observer reveal an internal thermal cutaway of the ASUS Googlebook, identified under model number CX9406. The cutaway highlights an active cooling solution featuring a single internal blower fan paired with a dedicated copper heat pipe. This layout indicates where heat will disperse across the chassis under sustained processor workloads.

The active cooling hardware aligns with earlier benchmark reports pointing to an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor and up to 16GB of RAM inside the ASUS configuration. While conventional Chromebooks often rely on fanless chassis designs, the thermal assembly in the ASUS model reflects the higher power draw required by the incoming software environment.

Chassis Ports and Dedicated Hardware Keys

Close-up photographs of the dark grey laptop frame show the peripheral selection situated on the right side of the machine. ASUS equipped the model with at least one USB Type-A port positioned next to a USB Type-C port, retaining backward compatibility for legacy accessories alongside standard modern connections.

The leak also shows the input layout, including a large trackpad and a dedicated “G” key on the keyboard deck. While the exact operational mapping remains unconfirmed, the key sits within the layout to provide fast access to platform-level system tools or Gemini AI integrations such as Magic Pointer.

On the exterior of the display lid, the images confirm a centered multicolor light strip. Known as the Glowbar, this accent feature revives the design element originally used on Google’s 2013 Chromebook Pixel. The centered positioning mirrors designs seen on leaked hardware from Lenovo, whereas competing models such as the Acer Googlebook 14 place the strip off to one side.

Pre-Order Timing and Partner Hardware Lineup

Google previously confirmed that customer Googlebook pre-orders will open on September 21, 2026. Despite the public timeline, Google has not yet presented the finalized retail configurations from its manufacturing partners.

The platform represents an initiative first unveiled at Google I/O in May 2026, where the company described the software as delivering the best features of ChromeOS and Android on unified desktop hardware. Google established manufacturing partnerships for the Googlebook category with ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, HP, and Dell to build out a broad hardware ecosystem.

Leaked partner devices include the Acer Googlebook 14 convertible and the Lenovo Googlebook 15, which features a 15.3-inch 120Hz OLED panel. As Google prepares to explain the purpose of the new Googlebook category to consumers, official hardware specifications, regional availability, and retail pricing are expected alongside the start of orders.
