Google has begun deploying software updates to enable its Better Together ecosystem features on Samsung smartphones connected to Googlebook laptops, resolving a post-launch gap for Galaxy users.
Key points
- Google has started rolling out Better Together integration for Samsung smartphones paired with Googlebook laptops.
- The rollout enables Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync on supported Galaxy devices.
- Eligible phones require Android 17, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8.
- The functionality arrives via automatic Google Play services updates over the next few days.

When Google launched its new laptop platform, promotions highlighted deep integration with Android devices beyond the company’s own Pixel lineup. Galaxy owners quickly found that essential cross-device continuity tools were absent out of the box, despite their phones running the required Android 17 operating system.
Missing Better Together Tools on Galaxy Hardware
The issue affected flagship devices including the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Although Samsung updated its premium handsets to Android 17, the companion integrations failed to appear when pairing phones with laptops.
Google acknowledged the omission shortly after retail availability began. The company confirmed that it was finishing the software components required to make the features functional across third-party Android hardware.
Core Ecosystem Features Arriving in the Update
The update brings four primary Better Together capabilities to Samsung smartphones. These tools let users bridge activities across mobile and desktop interfaces:
- Continue On: Allows users to hand off active browsing sessions and tasks from a phone to a laptop.
- Cast My Apps: Streams mobile applications directly onto the computer display for desktop interaction.
- Quick Access: Provides rapid toggles and direct connections between paired hardware.
- Notification Sync: Mirrored alerts prevent users from managing notifications separately on each device.
These capabilities were designed as primary selling points for the initial wave of Googlebook hardware, which opened for orders in late September.
Google Play Background Rollout and Device Support
Google stated that the fix relies on Google Play system updates and background service patches. The distribution will reach eligible Samsung handsets automatically over the next few days without requiring full operating system upgrades.
In addition to activating Better Together features, the background updates introduce an improved first-time pairing process. This setup flow connects Galaxy devices to hardware such as the ASUS Googlebook and other partner machines with fewer manual prompts.
The requirement for Android 17 remains in place. Devices running earlier operating system versions will not receive access to the suite, limiting availability to phones that have already received the latest platform upgrades.
